foam and splash being generated at edge of grid

Hi All,

I am doing a beach waves sim, and I am getting splash and foam being generated at the edge of my grid (furthest from the beach). Is there a way to stop that from happening?

Hey, try using birth volumes to work around this. Are you using 3.10 btw?

its from quite a gentle phoenixoceantex btw 150cm/s wind

The example beach waves max scene doesnt seem to have the same issue - splash and foam are generated quite evenly

birth volumes...? will need to read the help files again!

Yay, glad that helped! Meanwhile I want to look at the wave force because I have a scene where it creates some suspicious movement near the walls and that might be the same issue you've got too.

Yup, this is the wave force being naughty at the grid borders I suspected was causing the particle birth issues you had. I got a scene where that happens, just have to get there in a couple of days....

quick question if I may, can I delete .aur files while something is simulating? (for example if something takes 300 frames before something interesting happens)

Sure, no problem - Phoenix will likely be using only the last cache for preview, so you can get rid of all the others. For a regular simulation Phoenix does not need the caches at all. For Resimulation, Phoenix will also need to read the last cache.

I havent upgraded to 3.11, but with 3.10.03 Nightly, Build ID: 2018051728264 I still have the same boiling happening at the edges of my sim, causing splash and foam where I dont want it.

Is this fixed in 3.11 ?

Hey, indeed, we found out that the fix only works in scenes where there is no bottom geometry for our test scene - when a bottom is added, it still boils. I hope I can get there during the coming week...
