  • cpu compatibility

I havent updated my phoenix FD in a while (running 3.03 now), and I am running on a quite old computer, and also have a few renderboxes without some of the new cpu instructions, I tried to install the newest available version 3.100, and got the cpu required instructions error.
When did this change?, since I cant locate older versions on the Chaosgroup download section, I cant test to see for myself.

I was reading up on the instructions, and saw some options not in my version, specifically the ocenmesh camera margin. Kind of need this to avoid wrong reflections on ships..
What version was this introduced in?

I would at least like to have the latest version installed without this limitation..

    Hey,

Older official Phoenix builds are hidden from Chaosgroup.com, but you can get older nightlies - check the sticky topic if you don't have access. The V-Ray guys imposed this requirement on the installer on 15 Feb 2018 and since Phoenix and V-Ray share the same installer, it now applies to Phoenix as well. Note that these requirements apply for all ChaosGroup products that had official releases since February - V-Ray Next included.

If you need a particular old official Phoenix build, just let me know the 3ds Max version and I'll send you a download link. Phoenix 3.05 does not have this installer restriction.

    Cheers!

Ok, thanks, I have access to the nightly builds, max version 2016, does the 3.05 version have "ocean mesh margin"?

Hi, thought I'd append to this since it may be related. I'm noticing PFD 3.12 won't run on my boxes (primary nor for netrendering). 3ds max startup throws an error when loading PFD. v3.11 works fine. These boxes are Dell T5500 and T7500. Both show SSE 1,2,3,3S,4.1,4.2. Is this an instruction set issue perhaps?

Ummmmm, what is the error? This would be the most important point to start from

Ooops - machines are rendering in 3.11 currently. It was during startup when plugins are loading, something like "error loading.... phoenix..." If I click past it on primary, max will load but no pfd found. Of course netrender slave would crash out.

Oh, this is not a hardware thing - this means that most likely you have accidentally installed Phoenix for vray3 with vray4 or vice versa - you gotta watch out for the names of the Phoenix install files.

Great to know it's not - I'm not ready to give up my machines just yet - everything else works great on them ;] The file installed wasn't anything I don't have. When I fell back to 3.11 of the same name, all was well again. I don't have access to nightlies yet so these are from my 'downloads' section.

Thought I saw something somewhere in the posts about 3.11 to 3.12 someone couldn't run it. Can't search the string "3.12" so not sure.

I remember something, but I think was quite a while back - if you download a fresh 3.12 from the download section or from the nightlies, is there the same issue?
