  • Ground plane intersection error

Hi, I have created a new large scale smoke sim in an existing Maya scene. However the smoke on the floor is not penetrating correctly. It's as though there is an invisible ground plane 1 ft above the actual ground. Just wondering is there a default ground plane that i need to uncheck? It's really frustrating as it looks like the smoke is clipped before it touches the floor.

    Hey,

No such object, there must be something else going on. Are you sure that all geometries the simulator interacts with are properly shelled and there are no open geometries or inverted normals?

    Cheers!

I have a feeling it's the gpu preview. If you place the sim further back in Z space the separation is not so apparent. It seems to be an opacity z space issue in the gpu preview. The normals are ok, the geometry is closed.... i will try to check with the vray renders to see if they correspond with the gpu preview i am seeing. One other thing, it seems the discharge modifiers in Maya are set to MAX xyz setup? If you select Z it gives you Y, etc.

Oh, if you have the GPU preview enable, then that's different - if you have any objects intersecting the simulator or inside it, then they might appear completely in front of the fluid or behind it. You can check the other forum topics where this is discussed in more detail.

Indeed, when you use the Grid space for discharge modifiers, it is the same between Max and Maya and Z is up. World space, however, is Z-up for Max and Y-up for Maya. Check more info here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...arge+Modifiers

        Cheers!
