Resuming a stopped animation versus pausing

If I stopped an animation simulation, like months ago, how can I resume it from the point it ended - if I set the start frame and press resume will that act the same as un-pausing the simulation?

press restore.. will carry on from the last interval frame.

To resume a simulation means after a pause to continue the simulation. To restore a simulation after being stopped means to continue the simulation from the last Back up frame. In Output rollout there's a Backup interval which by default is 15. In other words, every 15th frame would be a backup frame.
