  • Load FD output directly as Simulation Start State.

Can this feature be added to load FD simulation from a specific frame (AUR)?

Load from a specific frame of a simulation as the starting state, similar to how Cloth works.

Right now its a bit clumsy to do it with the following step.
    1. Simulate initial scenario A.
    2. Load initial simulation A with offset, set start and end to 0
    3. Create Source B based on Simulation A
    4. Simulate B

Also is there script access for loading the AUR file? Or perhaps an option to export as XML based file as well as the AUR.

    Thanks.

it would be useful really. another work around is to use phoenix textures to set the initial state.

While you can't directly read/write the files, you can use MaxScript to read/write the values in the grid.

Vlado, is there a sterp by step instruction on how to do this somewhere?

another wish, not to steal the thread, but i thinks it's VERY relevant (i might have even seen it somewhere already) - an option to detatch the simulation from the timeline (RF style) so the pre-simulation could be done without counting the frames and writing the cache

        thanks

not sure that i'm following you. you mean to simulate without output, just for preview?

say you need a flow or an object to interact with a standing volume and grid pre-fill is not an option
or you need to use an established flow in a scene(river, waterfall, water slide etc.) and you don't need to show how it starts

there's no sense it "wasting" frames or disk space
just let it run until the initial condition is satisfactory and then record the animation

Ivaylo, by creating a fluid simulator you're inevitably competing with what's already out there whether you want it or not.
And what's out there is RealFlow ...

It makes sense to study it, if haven't done so yet, just so you're not "re-inventing the wheel".
It will take you as little as a day or two of following the tutorials and get a very good grasp on how it works.
              It very simple
And then you can decide what's applicable to your core and what features you might want to add.
              Keep Going!

about rf your'e right of course
well, about the starting frame i think an additional button can be added that allows just to pick a cache and to use it as starting point. currently the restore button does this, but gives the cache automatically
