  • Freeze Simulation + Tiling

    We simulated a fair cloudscape, which we would like to use in an animation.

    1. No further simulation would be required, a frozen state of frame X in our animation would be brilliant. Any way to do / implement ?


    2. Furtheron it would be neat to tile the simulation a couple of times towards the horizon to get a long distance cloudscape. For all kinds of atmospheric stuff this might be of interest.

    To freeze the simulation you can use the input tab's Frame settings. Set the frame to the desired frame at the beginning and set the speed to 0,0.

    To tile the sim you could simply use the array tool with the width/depth of the sim to create a regular grid or simply copy paste them as needed. For this to work you simply have to swtich
    your input path from implicit (wich uses the simulator's name) to a network or local path pointing to the correct cache files before copy/pasting.

      both the features are implemented
      the first one can be achieved in two ways, managing the cache input (see input roll out)
      - switch to "anim. frame index" mode and put the desired frame number in the parameter.
      - set play speed to zero, and put the desired frame index in the offset
      for the second question:
      go to grid rollout and from the boundary conditions select "wrap" for the direction that need to be tilled.
      for the shading would be better to use the VRay environment fog with textures exported by phoenix (to spare memory)

        You can do both of these already-

        1- Under the "input" options you can check the anim index and specify what frame you want to freeze your simulation at.

        2- you can simply copy/instance the simulators around your scene. You can also scale them

            anyway, i would recommend to use not multiple instances for the shading, but vray fog or separate phoenix shader with textures. the direct use of multiple copies will consume ram for every new copy, despite the equal content.
