I really like the tutorials, they do a good job of showcasing the features, but sometimes I just don't know how to think about the correct order for doing something. I don't even have a decent solution for the problem, just that I need to get better with it but I'm not sure exactly how.

I guess a sort of hierarchy or flowchart or something in terms of which property to think about first, second, etc. I guess that would have to be on a type basis like say "Ocean flow chart, River flow chart, fountain flow chart, etc." I know every sim is different but sometimes I wish I knew how to prioritize properties to make the process a bit less like guessing. I find myself making things I can't recreate because frankly I mostly did it on accident. Man it hurts to admit that but it's true.

I know it's not that simple and I've had the same problems with any fluid simulator I've used, so I'm not blaming Phoenix either. I just... kinda suck and I wish I didn't.

this problem is well known and we also have encountered it multiple times. several tools were made in order to avoid it, but general recipe does not exist. for example settings logging was introduced, because many times you can't return to the best result just because it was hit accidentally and you can't remember what exactly the settings were. another attempt in this direction is the resimulation, and we will continue adding tools helping to have predictable results, for example geometry guided simulation.

You guys are doing a great job, the advancements in phoenix 2 are fantastic. I really appreciate that you post so often as well, thank you for the heads up. I think the main problem isn't so much fluid sim but perhaps the user understanding of real world properties and how they relate to one another, which is really an education problem but one without an easy answer because it's all so tied up in higher level math/physics and most people just can't hang. Thanks again.

I totally agree. Whilst it may not be an accident it certainly challenges the memory to recall what settings were good on the fifth steam grid in a scene of a dozen or more grids. Greater use of presets and reference images would help and I think that has to come from the users. Sticky threads in this forum where users share their settings would be good.

We agree as well There are both sim and render presets coming, so one can have a proper starting point and will be able to further tweak settings for beauty, and not battle behavior, as currently.
