  • Meshing Options?

    I would love the chance to try out some additional meshing settings for liquid containers. The smoothness parameter has provided some great results recently. I had trouble getting the "Use Liquid Particles" to work on heavier grids without crashing (60 million+ cells).

    I usually mesh particles using Thinkbox Frost and found some use of various meshing algorithms, particle meshing radius sizes, surface subdivision amount, or some trimming of less dense areas to remove stray particles, in addition to the overall smoothing.

    Perhaps the "Use Liquid Particles" offers some of this functionality so I'll for my next test, I'll see if I can get it to work without crashing on heavier grids.

    Just another wishlist item

    Are you using the official 3.0 build? We did some fixes in the nightlies regarding the crashes.
    Can you try using one of the latest ones? If you don't have access contact support@chaosgroup.com

    If it's still crashing - if it's possible, send us the scene and we'll take a look.

    As for the meshing - we have some ideas to implement that will make the meshing a lot better and I hope to implement those soon.

      I was using the official 3.0 build but I'll try it again once I confirm that I have the latest nightly build.

        I want to bump this and add my 2 cents for improved mesh options. Phoenix is my first choice these days when it comes to fluid sim, in front of Realflow! However, there have been a few instances where I end up going with realflow because the meshing options are superior. In realflow, you have options for smoothing, tension, inflate, contract, etc. It's pretty robust and helps you really dial in the look you're going after. With phoenix, you have smoothing based on particle size. Most of my meshs are bumpy, or have stray beads close to the main body, no matter how high I crank the resolution up. I have to put a relax modifier on top to get it to look closer to what I want. Adding modifiers on top of the generated mesh doesn't seem to create desirable results, but more like results you can get by with. I don't want to have to buy and use Frost to get a good mesh either.

        I'm a huge fan of Phoenix, would love to see a day when I don't have to use realflow just for the mesh result.

            Hey Svetlin, quick question..

            I haven't tried this yet but when exporting the liquid particles to PRT, is there a way to export with the displacement applied? I assume not but that used to be my old workflow from Naiad to Max to Frost to be able to have more control over the mesh.
