  • Foam Particle Displace

Is it be possible to affect surface foam particles by mesh displacement?

The PhoenixFDOceanTex works fantastically for the overall surface and I've made use of the velocity based displacement as well but I found a few situations where the foam is floating on an area with low velocity so I still want to displace it and I hope to avoid pushing the mesh past the foam particles on the surface.

    Another item for the wishlist

    Thanks!

the foam is displaced by default, obtaining the proper displacement by the liquid slot of the foam shader.
if you have a situation where the liquid is set but the foam displacement is still not matching the mesh, this may be an issue and is good to send the scene with a cache file for investigation of the problem.

Seems that I mistakenly had my fade out zone set to 0 and was using mesh-mode (I misunderstood the explanation in the documentation). It seems that the foam displacement doesn't update in viewport but it works at render time. I also noticed that the fade out zone parameters seem to work as expected in Ocean Mesh-Mode but it only effects the secondary particles while in Mesh-Mode. In fact, while in mesh-mode, fade out zone doesn't seem to effect the mesh geometry at all even with velocity based fade out active. So does that mean the displacement tools were meant for just the ocean mesh mode?

This is just curiosity at this point because my question has been answered and the foam is properly displacing at render time (I'm using ocean-mesh in the scene I was asking about initially).

      Thanks for your help!

well, the displacement tools were not intended only for ocean mode, but were tested mostly in ocean mode, because this is 99% of their application
