It would be good if we could output render elements that match the output channels of the simulation - temperature, velocity, etc. Additionally, the VRayLightSelect element would be very useful, I understand it currently doesn't work with PFD.
I want to use these to achieve the effects seen in this video:

They use a custom normal map from placing 6 lights (VRayLightSelect), temperature to drive a gradient in a shader, and velocity to drive frame blending when slowing down the playback in a shader.
