Max throws a system exception and sometimes crashes to desktop if I type "bitmap" in the Max search field

Max throws a system exception and stops working properly and sometimes even outright crashes to desktop when I start typing "bitmap" in the Max search field (X hotkey by default or Help menu > Search 3ds Max Commands). This only happens if Vray is set as the render engine. It also happens with the latest official release of Vray, I've tested this on 2 different workstations.
