        vlado thats good to hear...im very skeptical about such things;
        last project we had - what could possibly go wrong? and out of all things one morning we found that there has been a punkture in the roof and a massive spray of water on our render nodes and servers....barely saved them....what are the chances of that??
        lol.

As in 4 days of work lost, the studio can blame this on chaos and that would be bad ....very bad.
          This would be the case even now, if, for example, the hard-drive on the machine with the VRLServer fails (hard-drives do tend to fry more often these days) and you have no internet connection to send a new auth request, and it's Easter holidays and no-one is in the office. In addition, like I said before, a working build can be arranged even in these, very unlikely, circumstances. Further on, if you have more than one license (many people do), you can distribute them on several dongles, very much like you install a back-up harddrive or work-stations if your work is truly demanding.

            This is to be expected; this is why we have opened this thread, to assure you that there is, in practice, no situation which cannot be resolved and leaving you unable to do your work.

              vlado, before taking such massive task ahead of you, why not make a poll and ask for users to vote weather all of us want the dongle or not? if majority deside they want to then so be it, but if majority is against it, maybe this has to be taken into serious consideration?

                I'm afraid this is not a matter for discussion at this point, the decision has already been taken and lots of effort put into its implementation. We have had lots of discussions in the team before taking this step, and have gone many times through the same doubts and questions as you now, before we were certain that in the end of the day, it is for the better and we can make this work.

                Best regards,

                  I have the feeling there is no way back at this time, but a poll can't hurt either. Although I see some disadvantages, being able to take the vray licence for running on a laptop is nice and upgrading your system without risk of having to reauthorize would make me vote yes.

                      I am not accusing you of any impropriety. But in the US there is no law giving you a "right" to have multiple copies of a piece of software installed on multiple computers, even if you can only use one of those computers at a time. Your rights involving how many machines you can install copies on is governed entirely by the End User License Agreement (EULA) that you "accept" during the install process and is specific to the individual software package being installed.

                      I am an avid follower of copyright law, restrictions, and various entities attempts to trample over the rights consumers do have when it comes to copyrighted material. I have not heard of Canada enacting a law giving consumers the right that you described. The US certainly does not have one.

                        So you are saying you are willing to hear (and expect) people whine and bitch but the decisions made you believe it's going to work and if we have questions/fears you will try to clarify.

                          So, should I feel ok? On one hand I am a bit upset to have to shell out another $30 to keep using a product I already paid for. It is nothing for a studio, for our studio licenses it is a very small percentage but for my personal copy which I use only for artistic uses it seem like a lot. On the other hand I paid for 1.09 and the forth coming 1.0 lol, but instead I get 1.5 for the price of a $30 dongle.

                          Really a strange position to be in concerning software

                            A poll is not a good idea I think at this point since Chaos has comitted to the dongle process and undoubtedly signed contracts with WIBU involving implementing it.

                            Besides, the forum users are not shareholders or directors in Chaos and have no say whatsoever (except for the power of their wallet) as to the direction that Chaos takes with their products.

                              So it seems; I have no choice really. A certain period of uneasiness is expected, but we believe things will be a lot better after that. This is often the case when something new is being introduced.
