domelight doesnt need gi, and you can achieve very detailed shadows plus faked GI with pretty low rendertimes (compared to a similarily detailed GI solution at least). Another option would be storing the Domelight with Irradiance maps.

Dome light is a bunch of smart direct rays cast, thats all. Like positioning 1000 area lights in spherical form....hint for movie poseidon, where because of absence of dome light in mr, they used 1000 area lights as a dome...haha...

        plus faked GI
Well I guess it doesn't "need" it, but it doesn't contribute to GI then correct?

I'm feeling quite stupid - my question(s) (unless they're directly video related) should also be moved to another section.

Sure you can enable GI. But don't set the hdri in your vray environment slot as skylight, AND in your dome light too or you get double amount of light. If you don't care about secondary bounces, leave GI off.

Nope, although it would have been nice if they were.

              Best regards,

Maybe you should do a LWF tutorial.

                    Re: V-Ray 1.5 feature videos

[quote="vlado"]We've compiled some videos about the new features in V-Ray 1.5. No sound currently, but I hope they are self-explanatory (I'm sure it's better than English soundtrack with thick Bulgarian accent )

                    Hello Vlado,

                    nothing wrong with Bulgarian accent

                    Thanks for the videos!

                    Regards

oh man i missed this announcement! Nice work on these Vlado, I think having some commentary on them would be good, then people might understand why things have been done in a little more detail.

Downloading now... cant wait... wish there was a thick acsent tell us about it tho!

Maybe you should do a LWF tutorial.
I have been talking to DaForce about just this, and he has been kind enough to make a tutorial about sky/sun/cam and LWF.

                        Hopefully he can comment further.
