Thanks to Joe Alter and the 3ds Max developer team at Autodesk, new in V-Ray for 3ds Max 2010 is the ability to render natively the 3ds Max "Hair and Fur" modifier. More information is available in the V-Ray help index:

Does that mean that the vray fur will become redundant now that max hair and fur is supported ? or is it still a lot quicker to render ?

I haven't really done any direct comparisons yet, so I'm not sure which takes less time/RAM.

      Best regards,

Another one of those features which really shouldn't belong to a "Service pack"...
Quite some advancement, well done Chaos.

Can't seem to download for sp3 for 2010, both 32bit and 64bit won't download any data. Just an empty .exe. Any ideas?

Yep, I noticed this; can't do much about it myself though - it will have to wait until tomorrow.

                      Best regards,

is there something that changed in max's code for 2010 for hair that there is only hair support for that version and not earlier ones?

There simply isn't an SDK for the hair for previous versions so there is no access to the hair information.

                          Best regards,
