Vlado, you will be surprised if you had a survey to see how many people belive that RT changed and improved their workflow....in my opinion RT just started to be a useful in SP2, before that was an unfinished tool like in beta stage.
if Chaos still wants to have the same price for RT users, in the future we'll think twice before buying a new product.

This time I want to see the world-wide online purchase reseller for upgrade.
I hate the local reseller. They never consider the personal user. They said that their high price has an customer service and offline education and .....
But I have no need them. Actually I have not received any service when after I purchased vray from them.

I never would have purchased it knowing what I know now. I feel like sucker.

I think the LWF pipeline should have been sorted out earlier on instead of focusing resources on RT. I've had a hardly usable (at least for my workflow) piece of software lying around and there's others in a very similar situation. Forgive if I'm wrong, but I was always kind of under the impression that the GPU was a newer and better implementation of RT and that it would eventually get corrected, but it turns out that it's an entirely separate product. Am I the only outsider blindsided by this?

Quoting off the top of my head - you're right, it wasn't that much. But I still haven't been able to use it. It's just been money thrown away.

Fair is when you pay for something and it's somewhat production ready. For some yes, and for others no (see threads on LWF issues.) I always expect bugs, but this was rather something big for me. Even better, how about a complete RT refund so I can apply it to the GPU upgrade please.

How about please fixing the LWF issue that was pointed out within days of the initial release and people have been complaining about? It's been well over a year. In the past, Peter and Vlado were on top of addressing bugs right away. Within the past couple of years, it seems that the fixes were farther and fewer between. Overall, I still think Chaos is great and the support top-notch, but not when it came to this RT release concerning LWF usage. In that sense, it's been pretty much a waste.

Lesson learned I guess I just didn't expect it from Chaos. This reminds of something that Adesk would do. I am disappointed with my purchase of RT especially now that I know the purchase was a total loss.
I think I will wait another 2 years before making any more purchases. Perhaps Max or Roxio CD Burner will come bundled with it for free.

I'd have to say that even something more similar to what Zeronove said makes more sense. Sorry I'm upset, but I thought the early adopters would be given some consideration here.

Remember - the upgrade is optional. Only do it if you can afford it.
A discount might help purchase the hardware needed to continue to test the usability of RT.

I think that the fee structure is pretty affordable. I too work in a very small studio where money is tight, but VRay is at the core of what we do here. I feel that the upgrade cost is rather low considering that I haven't had to pay for an update for over 4years! Compare that with any other piece of software that you need to stay current with, ie. Photoshop, 3DS Max, Nuke, etc...

I guess if work is that slow, I would question the need for upgrading software period. I know many people have been hit hard and this will definitely impact their ability to upgrade, but at the same time I would like to see continued development and I am willing to pay for that.

I personally can't wait until I can send in my pre-order payment!
I'm not asking for anything to be free. I am unhappy that I had to pay for something I couldn't use (LWF) that others are getting free a year later.

I agree with the comments of the disappointed RT buyers above. I purchased two seats of RT and found them totally useless for my purposes. I have not used them at all. I was not able to test the DR capability before purchasing and so was not able to test the true capability before buying. I purchased the two seats to take advantage of the introductory pricing offered when it first came out. We were told that RT was a separate product so I purchased it in good faith believing that the product would continue to be developed. Now we are told that that the product is for all practical purposes discontinued and that we essentially purchased a license to tinker with it for a year. Those that invested early funded the development and those who were skeptical and waited get it now for free?

It seems only fair that those that invested early in RT should receive at least a small token discount on the cost of the upgrade. I do but I fail to see your metaphor completely. All I'm saying is I've gotten much out of Chaosgroup software and am happy with it. The day I start comparing what I get out of this financially when compared to someone else is the day I quit. I understand some of us are more precise with financial stuff and you have every right to complain if you feel you are not being treated fairly.

I'm pretty sure that 100% of the warez monkeys did not pay for it, just by the definition of warez .

The pricing seems a little off to me too. Not horribly so but it's weird that someone who never actually bought a license of RT can get it in vray 2.0 for the same price as someone who did. It seems like there should be at least some accounting that the person did, at some point, put out the cash for an RT license (basically something like what Zeronove proposes).

I don't think it really matters at this point. ChaosGroup, or insert any other software provider here, will never be able to please everyone.

Not to mention the fact that ChaosGroup will be supporting 1.5 until the release of VRay 3.0! How many other companies will do that!?

Anyways, that's enough discussion from me about pricing, I am now putting my focus learning the ins and outs of VRayRT GPU/CPU.

Actually don't recall off the top of my head how much I paid for RT. But I did so when it first was released and I haven't really put it to use. It just seems odd that everything is getting updated almost a year later and being an early adopter did more harm. Perhaps I can be convinced otherwise with the Beta and any new, unannounced features that they are adding to it is worth paying more than new users.

As for complaining - yes I am as well because the pricing doesn't make sense. But hey, at least I paid for it versus 99% of the warez monkeys out there. That should at least count for something...
