  • 3dsmax 6 recompiles

    Hi all,

    We've uploaded recompiles for 3dsmax 6 of all VRay versions (Free, Demo, Advanced, Basic, NFR, Educational). There are no new features really, these are just recompiles (still, customers using the Advanced version may want to download this build, since it seems that the old one was unstable). Distributed rendering is still not included - it will have to wait for the next major update. Bake3D is recompiled though.

    Photon mapping isn't working for me in this new version. It doesn't crash Max on me like the previous one did though.

      Which VRay version is that? It does work in the Advanced build, just checked that...

        It's VRayInstall_Adv10903n60.exe. Seems to be working now, but not as good as direct computation. Even if I pump the spotlight's multiplier in VRay properties to 700,000 (though I can't really say I understand that feature).

          Still having the same problem with displacement, if there is more than one object with displacement applied to it I get an unhandled exception error.

            Don't instance your objects, copy them and it should be fine.

              The objects are not instanced. Each is a seperate ceiling polygon with a tile texture applied with .375 inch 3d displacement applied.


              I just tried it with a simple scene with two planes and displacement applied as before and it worked , but if I go to my large scene it errors.

              I went through each object and the only time it errors is if I have both objects with displacement on at the same time.

              I even remodeled the ceilings and reapplied the materials, I still get the error.

              I'm doing something wrong, I just can't figure out what it is, I guess.

                Look at your memory usage; if you are using 3d displacement, choose a different acceleration method or reduce the maximum amount of triangles for the quad-tree accelerator.

                              walkthroughs? I was under the impression that DR was NOT intended for anims and using regular backburner/netrender (or whatever its called) was the best approach for animations.
