has anyone actually seen a speed benefit from the avx version yet? since most reviews ive seen of the sandy bridge cpus talk about how the avx instruction set DOUBLES floating-point maths performance, any ideas why its not providing a major benefit?
im trying to decide at the moment between a single machine with a pair of older generation overclocked Xeons, or a pair of single cpu sandybridge machines.
- obviously i prefer the idea of having all the power in one machine, but i dont want to miss out on a potential big boost in speed that is just around the corner.

I get unhanded exception right away even on the simplest scene. Also I get max to crash when I just try to create the embree helper.Dmitry Vinnik

We're interested in the DR side of this. How would it work in a mixed i7 farm setup? Our farm has a number of Sandy bridge nodes, some early i7s and some 4 year old xeon nodes.
Cheers,
Olly
