  • G-buffer Channels

Why when I render out seperate G-buffer channels to saved files does the alpha and RGB channel get rendered out? Seems like A LOT of extra overhead if for example I only needed a shadow pass.

Sorry Jeff, I wish I knew. Sometimes answers come right away here and sometimes not at all.

You might have better luck posting on your own forum.

Come on people, don't you know who this guy IS??? He deserves a little help!

Yeah it has to be said answers do come a bit slow on here! But hey, all forums are different.

That sounds like something that could be easy to turn off, if the option was there? I also wish I knew. I'm sure Vlado or someone will be able to answer this.

I am not sure if i understand your quesion right.

well why any overhead. you only turn on what you need in the g-buffer area of vray,

you turn also on vrframebuffer and where your passes shell be saved. so theres no need of any overhead.

          hmm

sure there is becuase it renders out the RGB and alpha even though you don't ask it. As you know there is no alpha selection in the g-buffer area of vray and I did not select the diffuse channel.

i always render out the shadow extra as a shadowmatte.

I found g-buffer passes to be a bit of a headache too. In mental ray its much easier to render out elements. Seems to me like 1.5 will fix these issues but I suspect the vray team are too busy working on porting vray to the other 3D apps out there.

Apparently 1.5 will have render elements just like Max with the ability to save a Combustion workspace just like Max too! So hopefully this will make compositing much easier in that Vray will work as Max does with its scanline renderer. This is what I am hoping for anyway!
