  • vrayproxy and materials management

    Hello,

i'm working more and more with vrayproxys to insert 3dpeople, furniture in my models. But i kind of struggle with the way i should deal with textures management when importing my proxys, and then finding the right texture maps to assign them back on the proxy.

how do you deal with this ?

    thanks!

    Multisub map?

Yeah of course, collapse the whole mesh, save the multisub as a .mat, import the proxy in the new file, import the .mat and re-assign.
easy for a few proxys, but when importing many it gets a bit complicated

I can think of two ways to build that library without haven't issues with textures and materials.

1.Don't just keep .vrmesh files, use .max with already loaded proxy objects inside. V-Ray Proxy Export has an option to automatically import proxy file after it's creation, this will basically convert a geometry to .vrmesh by preserving all materials, texture and etc. Save that .max file and if needed import it in other scenes instead of importing .vrmesh file.

2.Export .vrscene files instead of V-Ray Proxy. Vrscene files holds everything, not just the geometry like V-Ray Proxy. The downside here is that you won't be able to modify materials afterwards, but there are other very nice features like you will be able to import that .vrscene file to other DCC application and render it in the exact same way.
