  • Edge lit glass

    Hey chaps,

I appreciate this has probably been discussed ad nauseum on here (I'm currently reading through an old thread now), but I'm trying to achieve edge lit glass - as per this: https://www.boonedam.co.uk/products-.../speedlane-300

Clearly the most obvious part is that the frosted parts appear strongly lit. I'm trying to replicate this (as photoreal as possible - rather than using self illumination etc) but having little luck.

In real life, the lighted bits are sanded down pieces of glass, giving a very diffuse refraction and reflection. I would do the same in 3d and use either a blend map between 2 materials, one proper glass and one with diffuse refraction. This or use a shell and let the edges have the frosted material.
Let us know what you come up with

Yeah, that's what I've already got - it's not great.

Last time i did this i used sss shader for the glass with very transparent setring and it worked great. Not sure you can use physical approach in vray. What Visionen showed is nice though...
