  • DR and Auth Server

Hey am setting up DR on 20 render machines and can only get 10 to render DR. I assume its because its taking my auth info and using only it. So how do I get vray to access the other vray licenses we have here at work? We have 4 of them.

Wouldn't you just open up the license server on your slaves and direct them to the IP addresses that have the actual licenses installed on them?

good point...so you have to have license servers running on all the DR nodes?

Yeah, I think so. But in your case, you would only need one extra license server since you only have 20 machines....haha, ONLY 20...LUCKY!!!

There is a 10 machine limit to DR, no matter how many licences you have AFAIK

Oh wow, I didn't know that. Well I guess 10 is still pretty good.

I see the ten machine limit mentioned quite a bit (I only wish I were fortunate enough to suffer from that limitation!) -- in any case, is this an arbitrary licensing limitation or is there some reasoning behind this?

              Just out of curiousity.

This is another advantage of dual cpu's over single's for renderfarms. The limitation is per computer, not cpu or bucket.

I believe the reason is because Windows only allows 10 connections at a time, If you do a little searching here you might find that "rules are meant to be broken" I would like to know if Chaos intended it as a licensing limit or if it is just the windows limit.

hmmm...that seriously stinks... We are using windows 2003 server as a domain controller, doesn't that get around that 10 connection limit?

You would have to be rendering with the server... what I was eluding to is that the Max 10 connection limit of XP can be gotten arround (the information is here in the forum) but I believe it is in violation of the XP EULA.

well I suppose it makes no difference if vray is going to limit rendering to 10 as well...

I guess 40 buckets will just have to be good enough...

hey cool... I had absolutely no idea that thread existed...must have passed me by somehow....

and yesterday I was most certainly thick... I seriously needed a beer at the end of the day... I got drunk and the wife had to roll me into bed...

Reading the entire thread, Im wondering if we might just be happy with 10 computers and 40 buckets... We have gigabit here, and will be going to fiber in the future, but I have definitely heard people say before, that unless you have some very serious network capabilites, you can hit a network wall that can actually makes things slower...

                            Thanks for the post.
