  • Render Reflection Issues Stainless Steel

    Hello all,
I am having issues w/ my scene. As you can see in the attachment some object are reflecting correctly some aren't i have to be missing something with my set up either a light or something. I have a vray plan, dome with 3 target lights. Tried hdri, "C" shaped plan w/ no dome light just targets. Any idea help is appreciated;.

See arrow. some of my surfaces look to blah and grey. I know i need to have something for it to reflect but that's where I am stuck. i've tried a plan above, another light source, I think i'm over thinking it or just been looking at it too long.

Have you tried wrapping an HDRI around it?

Very little have I tried. My results were very crazy as I am not familiar with using HDRI's

Turn off the dome if you're not using a HDRI. It will essentially kill the contrast in the reflections.
Use a realistic camera setting to prevent you from turning the light multipliers too high or low.
By target lights you mean photometric standard lights? If so, delete them. Light the scene with vray native lights only (mostly VRayLights in plane mode).
The 'place highlight' tool is gold! Link
The vray soft box map as texture for the lights is also pretty useful. It helps to create nice gradients in the reflections.
The rest is up to your eyes and the material settings.

When you're happy with the lighting and the highlights but the contrast in the reflection seems too high.
Turn the dome light back on and turn down the multiplier to a very low value to get a littlebit environment light.
Would be better to model a simple environment and light it with some additional vray light to reach the same effect but in a physically accurate way.

If those faces are perfectly planar, start by adding some distorsion, either at geometry level or with some adequate bump, displacement or whatever.

You should start by finding a nice HDR image. http://www.maximeroz.com/hdri/ is nice an affordable place to start.
Then create a VrayLight, select "Dome", set multiplier to 1.0; click the bitmap slot in the dome light and select a vray HDRI, and direct it to your newly bought hdr library; instance the hdri map to your mat editor and select "spherical" in the VrayHDRI settings. That should do.
