  • Can VRay RT Do this? - Arnold GPU / Nvidia RTX / Threadripper 2 / Siggraph 2018

    Hey guys,
    How's it going?

I just wanted to quickly drop in and ask if V-Ray RT can do this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A81NeQgJFE&t=625s

Are there similar demonstrations with these graphics cards and V-Ray?

I would love to see a character with skin and hair and costume being rendered with VRay on these GPUs - to see the performance. Can Chaos Group do that?

    Thanks

    Steve ~

It's not a character scene though, it's mostly a proof that RTX works. I guess we can do a character a bit later on.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Thanks Vlado,

Looks great. Yeah I think the object in that video only looks beautiful but in some ways its too simple. The Arnold demo scene was not that impressive - the Spider Man material was a simple metal.

I want to see a really good looking character (VFX level - like Weta or ILM) with a great hair groom, and skin shades and costume would be so cool to see. Can you ask a VFX studio to do a little demo on a high level asset?

I want to see a pro artist do look dev - change skin shaders or model hair and see the render updated in seconds !

Imagine a GPU and CPU working on the view-port for modelling the character, hair, shaders and the the RT GPU displaying the result? - Would be so sick!

Cool! Or an interior to get a sense of what these new cards mean for archviz.

          Awesome, Vlado.

Really looking forward to seeing where this will take us. Will the RT cores “just” speed up things, or do they enable algorithms that was not really feasible before?

Also, before we all get our expectations out of line based on vNidias “up to 6x speed gains”: what would you guys speculate that we can expect from this first generation of RT cores?

just wanting to sub into this as about to order a new workstation... is it worth holding off for a month until the RTX cards are available?
