  • VrayDome not rendering

    Hi there,

To do a lot and quick tests, I've got hidden geom turned off to speed everything up while testrenering my isolated selection.
Rendering hidden lights is turned on, and my scene lights are rendering even when they're not visible.
My problem is with the vray dome light (HDR) which isn't rendering.
This is especially a problem as I'm rendering just my isolated selection. And it's not always handy to include the dome light in this selection.

Is there any way I can fix this?
    Thanks!

Hmm, no problem for me using the same steps - the dome renders along with the other lights. Which V-Ray/Max versions are you using?

Ideed, that's what I would expect.
Very strange, because all my regular lights incl hidden are rendering, except for my HDR dome light.
No problem in my final setup cause I'm rendering with hidden geometry on, but now for testing it would be very handy to get this fixed.
I'm using max 2017 with the latest vray next build.

Also second question, I'm rendering a lot of interiors from one project, with about 35% of about 100 views with camera clipping.
Is there any way to get rid of the far clipping plant? I know you can just add the HDR in the env slot, but I'm working with 4 different HDRs so I can switch them on and off with batch cam, depending on which camera is being rendered.
Therefore it would be very useful to be able to render with the VrayDome light in combination with the camera clipping near = on and far = off

Hope you can help me with that please.
      Thank you!

Been asking this for years and a lot of people were down for this idea, Vlado said he was going to unlink near and far clipping when introducing the VrayCamera again. Guess it still didn't happen. Don't know what's going on there at CG but since the Corona acquisition a lot of necessary features are getting postponed, paused or whatnot.

            Yeah Ashley,

Ive come across your posts about this issue from a few years back... Thought this would have been resolved

edit (my last most was incomplete, posted via mobile): I've tried working with the HDR in the environment slot but if I remember correctly it didn't matched the lighting from the HDR, I'll try this again and post some shots from this.
But this seems to be the only way then?
Let's hope this can get fixed soon as this is crucial for quite some interior shots.

            Thanks

When working with HDR in environment slot, you can 't use the link rotation to dome light option. You have to rotate them the oldskool way by rotating the map and not the dome light.

Oh yeah, you're right, forgot about that...
Is using a sphere-dome a bad idea? (usually in combination with a vraylight with vrayhdri applied)
Thought there were some evermotion scenes that were done that way.
That allows you to set your far clipping plane behind the dome, and you can easily link the dome to the HDR rotation, and turn them invisible with the HDR dome lights.
Only now I've setup everything so that I can control just the lights turning on/off per camera

If someone from chaosgroup is reading this, please look into this for a more permanent and better solution.
                Thanks!
