Update 2 for 3DS Max 2019 is here

Here is the full list of additions to the Software, these release notes catalog a lot of the issues and fixes development has made in the past few months. Some highlights (in my personal opinion) are listed below.

ALC/CRP: Update 2 has a built in tool that protects against the ALC/CRP maxscript issue. Further documentation is forthcoming which will outline how to use these cleaning tools.

Alembic: A fair amount more data is able to be exported using Alembic now! For example, MAXX-44214 fixed issues with Alembic, where importing normals would result in random geometry.

Bifrost: Lots of great features within the bifrost fluid simulation tool, including simultaneous fluid rendering. MAXX-44281 fluids scale being incorrect due to incorrect decimal separators was resolved in this update, hurray!

Cloud: Character path issues that effected a lot of folks is now resolved. MAXX-43941 MXP files no longer limited to 32k characters.

I'll never understand why those updates always take an hour or even more to get installed. Max is the only software I know where this is the case. I't is even faster to install the whole programm then install this 610mb update.
Edit: Took a half hour, still too much but not as much as I thought.

No they didn' t. I didn' t really follow this issue but I just noticed that it works for Arnold. Don' t know if it worked before this Service Pack. Actually it only works for Arnold parameters. Switches in the common Tab still need a double click.

The Arnold UI is done in Qt (you can tell by the large spinner boxes), but the rest of the render setup dialog UI is still based on regular Windows dialog controls and they still have the double-click issue. It's somewhere on the "to do" list to research how this can be done for V-Ray as well.

            Best regards,

I will not update to 2019 until this is fixed. Hugely annoying bug, how this has passed testing is beyond me. Hope AD might finally fix this in the future.

Yeah, it is a pain. There is a command line string that'll install it in minutes, but I haven't used that in a while. They don't test like an end user and have probably never installed it from the installer. They'll say that it has never been reported and they can't fix something that they don't know about.

anyone experiencing UI lag after installing the update? max freezes after cancelling a render for about 10-30 seconds for me.
can't remember it doing it particularly before the update...

Not here, but MAX still crashes 2-3 times a day. NVIDIA did have an update about the same time the update came out.

In max 2018, I simply use Array function to clone object, hit ok, then use undo and max crash. Interesting.

What is bifrost? I thought its some plugin. Or is it a name for new liquid system?
