  • Photometric Free Light or VRay IES Light?

Do I HAVE to use Vray IES Light when I use ies files for real world lights or can I continue to use the standard Photometric Light for ies files using for Light Analysis and renderings in Vray?

It's not necessary. If you like Photometric Lights and you don't have any issues with them you may continue using them instead of V-Ray IES.

While what Svetlozar said is true, I have to advise against using the 3ds Max photometric lights for performance reasons; there are cases where they may severely reduce the speed of your renders by a factor of 10x or more. I would recommend VRayIES lights whenever possible.

Wow that's quite a jump in performance. I have been using the Vray IES lights since i use VRay renderer. I just wasn't for sure if it made a difference or if one was more accurate than the other when it came to light analysis. Thanks for the guidance.

The VRayIES light should provide adequate accuracy for lighting analysis.
