What's the proper way to use the auto exposure feature? And I thought my camera settings automatically change as I move the vray camera. So do I place a vray physical camera, leave the vray camera exposure option checked, then go to the camera tab in vray, and check the auto exposure setting? Do I uncheck the exposure setting in the vray physical camera, then check the auto exposure feature in the camera tab? I'v noticed that with auto exposure checked my hdris get blown out.

You don't need to do anything in your camera - just check auto exposure on the camera render settings - but you have to be using lightcache.

What JD3D_CGI said - just enable it in the render settings and make sure you are using the light cache.
