  • Render without Background?

    Hi all,

Im busy doing a project in which i want to have the the product and the shadows but without the background/environment.
Coming from keyshot this used to be quite easy to do (tick alpha transparency) but i havent got a clue on how to this in Vray

    Thanks for any help

Well...there are probably different ways...Render the passes that allow you to piece together the final beauty pass. Another way is to just render selected with an alpha. You won't get shadows but you wont get the background either. You can add a matte shadow material to catch the shadows and comp in PS with your own background. I'm sure someone has a really good workflow to achieve what you want.

      Hi,

Not sure I completely understand the question but ...this is using an HDRI image? If so and you don't want to see the environment background, what I do is create dome light, hook your environment into it (use the VrayHDRI map) - go to options for the dome light and check invisible. The HDRI image will disappear but you will still have have the light, shadow, etc.... hope this helps. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Edit vray properties on the background object(s) and set alpha contribution to 0. Then you have the product mask in the alpha. If you want the shadow you have to use a matte shadow with vray wrapper or the vraymatteshadow render element.

Where is your background? Is it geometry or a map? If it's a map, just disable it. If it's a HDRI, turn off visiblity. If it's geo, set the objects to no visible to camera.
