  • simple walk-thru animation SETTINGS?

while back, somebody posted a question about what the render settings or work flow were for producing a simple walk-thru animation with no moving objects other than the camera.
^Lele^ responded with a post that had some very clear instruction on what those settings were.
for the life of me I just cannot find that post any more. could somebody point me to that original post or maybe repost what your successful settingS are?
    thank you in advance peeps

The settings are all in the tooltips in the Max render UI!
Simply put, from defaults, raise LC subdivision and retrace value to 3000 and 8.0 respectively.
    Render.

For animation where the camera is the only thing moving I do the following: Pre calculate lightcache with the "use camera path" checked. Save the solution to a file. Make sure that when you calculate lightcache that you have have it as both primary and secondary and check "do not render final". Once calcs are done, uncheck "do not render final" select "From file" select saved file. Test some keyframes to see quality. I normally render with Brute force as primary and LC as secondary. Hit render. I know it's quicker to render with Irradiance map for primary and LC for secondary, I just like the look of Brute force. Personal preference. If you chose Irradiance, medium animation quality typically gives you nice results.

        Render.

So are these the settings that are prime for producing an animation?
It can't be this easy could it?

            That's exactly it!
EDIT: NOPE! Those aren't the defaults: the LC has to be set to "Single Frame", not "Fly-Through".

"that's short, i want to read more!":
Notice that if you added motion blur, you may want a minimum AA of 2 or 3 (to avoid missing fast and small details), and of course the max AA subdivs and noise threshold work as one, but i see you took care of them already.
            "Moar!!!:
This can now render with each frame as a stand-alone entity, allowing the distribution of the rendering to more than one machine, and avoiding the recomputation of a path-bound LC (which can be long, particularly for a long sequence) should anything at all change at any point in the animation.
Because it's set to be well refined for each frame, further, there's no need to go and switch sample size mode to World, and gauge a correct sample size in world units: you're just carefree and ready to render. (and any issue which should come up is for us to fix then. )
