  • Vray Next uprading arguments needed...;)

    Hey there,

I always love new updates, but I´m having a bit of a problem right now, I just went over the new features of Vray Next and one stuck out that might ruin it for most of our work.
I know i´ve posted something similar before, but I couldn´t find it again, so here we go again...

We do a lot of medical animations with scenes that often consist purely of VrayFastSSS2 Materials, I´d say about 60-70% of our yearly projects.
I always used prepass mode, since it rendered fastest, especially with Vraydisplacement on most of the objects.

Since the prepass mode for SS2 has been discontinued, I´m worried that upgrading might actually slow things down for us considerably.

Are there any speed improvements from Vray Next over Vray 3.6 concerning the SSS2 material?

Could someone maybe run a little test for me? Lets say a simple sphere with SSS2 material and procedural Vraydisplacement (cellularmap seems to be the worst). filling the camera view?

The volumetric speedup is very interesting, but uur farm won´t be upgraded in the near future with bigger GPUs, so that mode is not very interesting to us just yet.

I´m mostly worried that Vray 3.x might be discontinued soon, not sure if that has already been answered or if you can answer that publicly...

Might be better if you prepare a scene for someone who has Vray Next (or maybe chaosgroup could test it since they have all the versions) so they can render without the interpolation. (and your system specs and rendertime on that scene).
    A.
