  • max 2019.3 update - viewport

    Hi, i'm just trying out vray inside the viewport with the newwest max update enables. It works great apart from 2 things:

    *It opens the vfb and the error message window every time i enable activeview or i resize/max-min windows - which does get tedious to close everytime.

    *It doesnt resolve from a noisy image until i click in the viewport somewhere, which the starts the process all over again.

    but it looks like it will be a very helpfull feature.

    Thanks for the pointer on the VDB message - will make a note to hide the message for viewport IPR.

    I’m not quite sure I understand the second part about the update. I know that the viewport IPR doesn’t refresh when a different viewport is active, but I’m not sure this is the problem in your case.

      Hi Vlado, thanks for replying. What happens is the the first noisy stage starts then it will not displsy the clean denoised finished render until i click in the viewport again, which makes it switch to the final render ---but because i have clicked somewhere it starts the render over again.

        I get this until i pan the viewport or select another object. Perhaps its working as it should and i'm expecting to much?

          Also i've opened up an old scene and when i start active shade the objects are always in front drawn as if still in standard viewport mode.

            Can you send me that scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com ? It probably depends on the viewport draw mode that was chosen.

              Hm, I don’t really get this here, it works as expected; do you have the issue on any scene?

                Sure, here's a scene - the ball is always drawn over the top of vray.

                  Yes, all scenes.
                  Ok, i left my machine running, came back and i have a clear noise free viewport. So it does resolve, just slowly. It takes 30 sec for a teapot and plane underneath with 1 light to become noise free. sound right? I can get the noise free almost straight away by clicking left or middle mouse button (right click doesnt work).

                  I have V-RayRT 3.60.04 slected for active shade renderer - Cuda engine type and both my gpu ( quadro p4000 ) and cpu selected in render devices.

                    Ok, you should have mentioned that. We couldn't get the ActiveShade mode to work properly; we looked into it with Autodesk, but we/they couldn't find why it doesn't update. This is why for V-Ray Next we have our own "Viewport IPR" mode which works correctly and ignores the ActiveShade workflow in 3ds Max. Sorry about that :/
