  • Workflow for the next few years.

    Hello.
This is a general business question.
I am in the business along time now.
I am currently using Corona, but used Vray up to 3.6 then switched.
I have not yet updated Vray to Next.
I am do Architectural rendering mostly, interiors exteriors master plans etc, so lots of trees cars people, and lots in interior detail also.

So I would value peoples opinion on the following.
Do I go Vray Next and stay with it.
I ask this because, Vray is porting into Unreal, and that's the future as far as I can see.
Vray is moving very quickly in development , and the unreal version makes sense from a rendering and interactive point of view.
I do love Corona, and it does what it says on tin.
But financially and future proofing the work flow, what is the best path to go with.
    Advise would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    philip

    I'd stick with Vray.
Not only that realtime is 'the future' at some point.
    GPU also is!
And Vray RT (now called GPU) made a biiiig jump from 3.6 to next. The upgrade to next is totally worth the money imo.
    I don't have corona, though.

Edit: On the other hand, Vray for Unreal is a separate product. You can buy (rent unfortunately!!) it without upgrading the max version and continue using Corona for offline rendering.

Great question Philip, your workflow is almost identical as mine. So I am in kind of in the same boat as you, currently using VRay 3.6 for max and I have not upgraded to NEXT. with that being said, I have been contemplating switching to Corona, but I am so invested in VRay that I am a bit hesitant to make the jump. I also have been doing a lot more Lumion 9 renderings as this program has a lot of potential
and creates very stylized images that is acceptable to clients without much trial and error. WYSIWYG is back.
so with Virtual Reality making a big push in the past year, I have invested a lot of time in learning, producing content for VR typically through SketchUP to IRIS Prospect to my HTC VIVE headset without much extra time invested, the downfall is the VR content looks cartoony again.
I feel that we are at a crossroads regarding renderings and VR and there are a lot of options out there.
my questions are what are people doing to get better content (materials, reflection, lighting and shadows) in the the VR headset.
      1. 3d studio Max and VRay NEXT

      2. Unreal with VRAY plugin
      3. 3d studio MAX with Max Interactive
      4. SketchUP with Enscape
      5. Unity (who just partnered with Autodesk)

my biggest concern is how do I reuse or share my work that I do for producing still renderings without having to invest or rebuild my scene in order to produce great looking content for the VR world

could someone please weigh in on this topic an shed some light on their workflow

sorry if I hijacked this thread Philip

Not at all, they are all valid and will only add to the conversation.
