But, a lot of things has happened since 2014.
Our pipeline simple doesn't work with pre-2017 version at all.
You can check a few major thing added since 2014 on my homepage.

Of course there are even more features which I did not even mentioned like new Spline tool, DCM, BBM, 3dsMaxbatch.
Out of all of that page I`ll definitely agree that OSL looks really cool. I doubt I could code anything myself but there`s a lot of shaders out there being shared so it can only add some extra functionality, the same goes for MCG. I agree it definitely depends on the type of work you do. In general though I think more exciting progress has been made in 3rd party plugins than 3dsmax itself.

        OSL doesn't need coding.
dsMax already ships with 100+ shaders,
Also as I mentioned a post, it opens to a lot of new workflow I have asked for long time. For example, UV instancing, Gamma in texture, tx/dpx loading, more 3d procedurals. tons of randomization options.
It also allows portable map tree across renderer which is revolutionary.
Nvidia is working on OSL> CUDA.
If that happens, you could share map tree without conversion even between CPU/GPU renderers.

          2016 here.
Cannot get used to the changes to viewport control behaviour... But since soon I will move to 4k monitor - will have to
          Available for remote work.

Who gets excited about a new version of 3ds Max these days, LOL! I mean, seriously... I stopped caring since 2012. Every version is the same t*rd with a bit of sugar coating and glitter on the top, but more and more expensive every year to "make up for it". No substantial changes to the tools, workflow, viewport and the major components for over 12 years now. What's there to be excited about? All "improvements" from 12 years ago till now could have been fitted in 3-4 major versions, if even that, not 12. The milking continues as per usual...

Well... we can agree to disagree.
if you think between 2012-2019 is just "a bit of sugar coating and glitter on the top", what can I say?

Some concrete evidence at last ! You`re right, Not much going on though.
I wonder if they`ve fixed the interface issues, I`m not optimistic.

well, by now the expectations are so low that this does not surprise.
Does anyone know how many developers actually work on this software. It feels like its just one guy. Im genuinely interested what is going on there.
Lets hope the service packs make up for some of the features/fixes. That seems to be the trend.

So it's finally happened. An annual update with no new feature. At least I won't feel bad about not installing it.

There is an official statement at area:
                          https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-m...686978#M170895
I would wait for the official landing page before bashing the feature list from the help doc too heavily, there's quite of bit of exciting content in this release. Personally, as a member of the development team, I am extremely pleased to see "lighter" releases especially around the big yearly releases. In the past, there was always a huge rush to not miss the proverbial boat and admittedly there were times were quality suffered as a result. In the new subscription delivery model, if a feature is not ready in time, it simply jumps to the next point release.

At least we can accurately see how much FPS we have in our viewport
                            A.

LMAO! What a steaming pile of m@nure! Is this why I'm paying thousands of euros a year? Do you now understand why I made my previous comment above? The "improvements" in 2020 should have been an update to 2019 AT BEST. I would even say that calling it an update would even be a big stretch. There is nothing noteworthy in Max 2020 that will improve my workflow as far as I can see. The effort of installing this spit in my face is not even worth it in terms of time and money I'll lose doing so.

Good thing I'm already starting to learn Blender 2.8 and Houdini after being a loyal Autodesk customer for 10 years. I'm extremely disappointed with this company and I'm planning on dropping them in 2020 because of their OUTRAGEOUS pricing increases (20% each year for my perpetual licenses) with which they are hoping to corner me and the rest of their customers into exchanging their MUCH more valuable perpetual licenses for INFERIOR monthly/yearly rentals that cost DOUBLE what I'm paying now and don't provide any benefit, only drawbacks.

Once they scam most of their customers with their sh*tty rental plans and have them by the b@lls, they will have a FREE REIN to jack up the price as much as they want and you wouldn't be able to do A THING because terminating your rental will mean you won't be able to access the program and past projects anymore. I already switched from AutoCAD to BricsCAD and I'm never looking back. I hope to do the same in 2020 in regards to 3ds Max.

This was the boiling point. When they care more about their investors and stock price instead of the people that ACTUALLY put the food on their table, they are destined to failure. I'm looking forward to saying "Good bye, Autodesk. You won't be missed!"

The new chamfer modifier seems to be pretty cool, though. One can use it like opensubdiv - destruction free, using the crease spinner.

                                Here is a roadmap:
                                https://area.autodesk.com/blogs/the-...526.1553521936

Some of those things would be quite handy.

Basically they say we won't annually release halfbaked features anymore. Instead, they make them solid and release them in service packs.
Which, if true is a good thing.
