  • Fast Lights

What would you say is the fastest/best ceiling lights. I have tried many things, but I haven't really landed on anything specific. Sometimes it's a sphere light and other times it is a disk light. Could I assume IES lights are the slowest? I have downloaded lights that have 2-3 three lights in them, but in the end, they all look the same. One I just downloaded has a sphere up in the can, an ies pointing up into the can, and a third right below the can.

Simple light types should be the fastest one. Plane light should probably be the fastest one, Sphere and Disc light should be slightly slower but probably unnoticeable slower and the IES, mesh lights should be the slowest ones.
For light-type choose however render speed shouldn't be the primary factor cause different type of lights are meant to be used for different illumination types, so light-type choose should comply more with the effect you are after and not that much with render time.

Would you please let me know what's the reason to benchmark lights in terms of speed?

I have an interior with 100's of lights, so I wanted to know the best way to approach it. I ended up using IES lights, which rendered fine, I think. I had many issues with artifacts, but I don't know if it is the lights. Vlado has that file for investigation.

Just cuz you have a hundred lights, doesn't mean all 100 need to be placed. You can have a vraylightmtl assigned to all of them, then add lights that are seen by camera or closer to walls, etc...Then strategically place rect lights for general lighting.
