  • Camera and sun position -- VRay and 3DS Max

I've been looking online and I can't seem to find if this is possible or if there is an idea on how to do this. Sometimes a scene of mine may have several camera positions, but my sun system is not flattering for some of these cameras, thus I'd need to change the position depending on the angle. I was wondering if there was a preset in 3DS Max or VRay that locks the sun/sun position to the camera, without having to use Scene States or Animation, just go to a camera and the right set of lights are turned on/off for that camera.
It sounds like a bit of a dream, but just checking, never hurts to ask around.
    Tks!

I animate the sun, so when I change to a camera, I can scrub the timeline to bring the sun around to where I need it.

Thanks Bobby, I thought about that. It would be cool to have a light or set of lights set for a camera though. Similar to a state set for lights connected only to the camera. So when you switch to camera 2, sun 2 turns on and sun 1 turns off. Not sure if this exists, but it would be a nice addition to Max 2020.

Exactly this issue was the one that forced us to create Pulze Scene Manager at Brick Visual. I hope it will solve your problem and even more. Just give it a try and let us know if you have any feedback. Please visit the page for more info.
          Thanks Vizioen for the recommendation

lighting setups for different cams on separate layers. layers on and off via scene states. you can also add and remove objects for each cam that way. i guess all possible batch render solutions have option to assign scene state per camera.
and you can clearly see the setup currently on in layer menager.

We place cameras and lights into separate layers for each view.

                00_SceneSetup
                View_A

                - Cams
                - Lights
                View_B
                - Cams
                - Lights

Say we want to render View_B, we would turn off layer View_A. This way you have independent lighting setups for each view.
For this to work, you need to check off 'Hidden Lights' in global settings.

Yeah the only problem I have with this flow is I use isolation levels a lot to sometimes isolate stuff to see how it looks without all the rest of the scene. With hidden lights off, I need to make sure I have the lights selected as well, so not really an ideal workflow in my case.

I just name the lights to match the camera name and turn them on/off in the light lister.

So cam EXT01 would have a vraysun or hdri called EXT01.

if it’s only selection you need than use selection sets with lights for each cam.
select what you need to isolate and ctrl click selection set you need.
for rendering hidden lights switch just put buttons somewhere.
