  • Should we always just use VRayHDRI for most standard image loads?

It seems that most advice I get from Chaos Group/other users is just to use VrayHDRI as the default image loader for most types of images, even non hdri imagery. Seems to be various reasons, such as VRay handles it more accurately and with better native filtering. I assume this is is why V-Ray Bitmap to VRayHDRI converter has been built into the quad menu. I have noticed occasional issues with the standard Max Bitmap loader in VRay that seems like an edge premultiplication issue... where the checkbox on default loader does nothing to remedy. Using VRHDRI instead seem to fix it, even with simple JPG loads.

Do you think it safe to assume we should just start using VRayHDRI by default instead of the max Bitmap loader? Curious if anyone has more insight here.

    Thanks for always providing insight!

I never use the standard bitmap anymore since 5 years I think. Haven't had any issues. Because of all the reasons you just said (filtering, memory, etc, ...)
