  • Add to Current vs. Incremental Add

I'm new to loading stored information. I have a huge interior scene which I want to rerender faster from other angles. I take it that I could use one of the following options. I was looking at 'Add to Current' as an option. Would this be the best method from your experiences? But I don't understand the difference. Does 'Incremental Add' use more memory overhead in fly-throughs vs. 'Add to Current'?

On a slightly separate question, it pulls stored IR info from memory - is there a way to enable adding additional IR info to saved VRmaps and load them from this saved location vs memory overhead? I need to quickly close out of Max but I still want to retain this useful information. If I choose 'Add to Current' then 'From File' gets deselected. Also, would it automatically know to save/add to a previously written IRmap?

I would use Incremental add to current map ... then you are building layers and more info in the map and it will render very fast.

      Thanks for the quick reply.

So, should I use 'add to current map' with 'on render end, dont delete, autosave, and switch to saved map all checked?' Does this also mean that in-between I cannot close out of Max without fear of losing this data 'stored' in memory?

I ask this question because I offered to take a look at a scene for someone mid-way through a series of different renders. I just dont want to lose that valuable information if I have to restart everything.

save the origanal map then set it to incremental add and it will just add more bits to it on an auto save function.

It will also automatically know to load from it to?

you have to tell it where to load from .. or switch to saved map

Avoid using the "Add to current map" mode; use the "Incremental add" mode instead - this will save memory and will make subsequent renderings faster.

So when you are going to do stills from frame 0-10 you have to set it like this..

                  IRMAP

radio button -> incremental add to current map
                  on render end
                  tick don't delete
save -> point out a map
                  switch to saved map

                  LC

                  flu through
                  on render end
                  tick don't delete
save -> point out a map
                  switch to saved map

                  right ????
                  Thx in advance

Okay daforce said not to tick switch to saved map.. so.. I did..

but the strange thing is that when I hit the render button... he calculates the LC for the last frame first... and then he starts at the claculation of the IRmap of the first frame ... ????
