  • Looking for Glossy Refraction Fast Render Method

    Hi,

I like to render some kinde of pharmaceutical packaging stuff like this:

The bottles are in a nest, made of glossy refractive plastic - as you can see. In this case you can forget the white tub below.

I wonder if there is method for creating a fast rendering material for that kind of bottle carrying nest, than just make a full refractive VRayMtl and raise the Refraction Glossiness value. The Mtl looks good but it will take ages to render.
In next step the amount of bottles will kill my rendertimes too, cause of so many refraction surfaces in a row. Is there any possibilty for getting fast or optimized rendertimes for this case?

    Thanks a lot!

V-Ray Denoiser is your friend here, it can save a lot of time cause clearing Refraction Glossiness noise with high value for the Depth is huge computational task.
Of course you may cheat up a little bit with the Depth value, instead of calculating a Depth of 50 you may try to decrease it to a number that still produce believable image - after all no one will be able to find out that the traced depth is clipped.

Thanks for that tip - i will try that!

Maybe this is something for the whislist. It would be nice if you could develop something like a "Fast Glossy Refraction Mtl", like you did with "Fast SSS" for translucency. And a "Fast Multi Refraction Mtl" for lots of refraction surfaces in a row ... with automatic cheating and calculation shortcuts in allgorithms.
Im pretty shure you will get it .

We went through this actually but the result was not very successful, hence feature has been removed. Search cheats cause a lot of headaches when rendering animations, they also does not work well with other optimisation features like adaptive lights which improve render speed on the entire scene.
