  • Vray proxy technique

I attempting to use Vray Proxies for handling roof tiles on a project where displacement just won't cut it. Which is better?

    A) Setting the basic tile as a Vray Proxy then instancing the Proxy accross the roof

    B) Instancing the tile object across the roof and then creating a single Vray Proxy of all of them

    C) Start with A, then make a single Vray Proxy of all of them

I'm not even sure C is possible, when I tried it, Max completely used up one of my processors and became unresponsive (although memory usage didn't go above 274MB) for over an hour, I don't know if it completely failed or was actually reaching a solution.

I think B is best, because in A vray needs to load a lot of small proxies many times. Not sure though.

I had same problems with trying C some time ago.

If you can group the tiles in larger blocks, and instance those, it would be best.
