Given that it's a max plugin and not available in maya / blender, I assumed it's not possible to package up a max .dlo alongside a .vrscene so it works - feel like they'd shout about that being a possibility if it was.
I did just make everyone swap out their material though... will probably stick with this vray-only method from now on!
I'm looking forward to getting stuck into OSL maps - this particular project is being done in 2016 / 3.6, we're going to be running 2019 & next alongside it too for smaller jobs that are being juggled.
