The new forum rules and its impact

Hey guys, I just shared my two cents.

Certainly I know we have got better support technically since the changes, as everybody can see. I totally understand the frustrations you guys had before. I also understand maybe this is the forum direction that CHAOS selected.

For me, diversity means, the forum may also open to those non-VRAY users, who are CG professionals, traditional artists, architects, designers, ...etc; and those who're using VRAY free or demo. Think of that, although they are not VRAY users, however our VRAY community can benefit from their knowledges of CG theory and/or aesthetic insights.

Thanks everybody for the answers. I guess there is a trade off between more volume of messages and more personalized support. There are still a few questions that I posted here that I never got a resolving answer. However sometimes just to be heard is a form of answer, I guess? ( or I try to hope so). Especially when there is no immediate solution to my problem but the issue involves aknowdlegment from the development team that there's a problem.

The part that I don't really like about restricted access is that very important people for the proper integration of Vray with Max and other plugins are now being left out. For example Dans (from Cebas) has given extremely helpful insight of what shortcoming of Vray needed to be worked out so Vray can fully take advantage of PSD manager (still an issue not fully resolved AFAIK). Now that type of feedback is not good for this forum all the sudden? People like him, other people that develop renderfarm software, particles plugins, or any other plugins have to be granted access to this forum because otherwise the only ones being punished are us (the real users) and on the long run the healthy development and improvement of this software. If Vray becomes a members-only club that won't allow relevant parties to express their voice, I don't want to be part of this club then. There's got to be a way to make this work, and please don't tell me is posting on the public forum because it defeats the whole purpose of this segregation.

Gustavo, I agree. And if such people should need to post on this forum I think they should be granted access.

yes i know im thick but could you elaborate why its not a good idea to have them post in the public forum.
Or perhaps a new section with all access with a more 'techie / high level' name would attract those people you talk about ?

i really really like the reasonble post count plus a higher deegre of usefull information within that count.
But i see no reason why a privat customer forum cant be maintaned alongside a public more general forum without loosing 'important' people from the CG i.

In the end customers demand some sort of support and i think chaosgroup delivers better like this.

Perhaps an 'amnesty' can be given to a few old members who contributed technically or visually speaking or to some of those in really poor countries - the onus being upong their shoulders to eventually make a concerted effort to eventually pay for Vray. Perhaps even a payment plan (several different installments) would help to offset some of the high costs - hey, it's better than nothing...

cant really agree with that. If they are using vray commercially, theres not reason to not purchase. ONE job would probably pay for it. If they are just hobbyists, then theres nothing wrong with the demo. The watermark is pretty unobtrusive IMO.

Please don't quote me wrong. I never said that someone using Vray commercially shouldn't pay for it. If you make a profit then that is an obligation no matter what the excuse IMO. On that note, it's also not that 'easy' to just 'find' one job unless you've been in the industry for a while. Not everyone has that luxury (nor is it very easy - I still haven't had any luck.)

What I was trying to say is that it woud be beneficial if a few people made it back to the main portion of the forum. I was just trying to constructively think up new ways in which everyone would win/benefit from a modified system. I hope there's nothing wrong with just trying to help.

greetings all,

typically i dont get a huge amount of time to visit the forum, at least daily, but i found before the new rules it was fairly unwielding to try and 'catchup' when i did get time to visit. as mentioned allready, the plethora of low quality and duplicate issue posts was a drain to read through and certainly didnt encourage contribution. the forum seems a lot quieter now. all good. hope to have something useful to add more regularly.

re the 3rd party contributors, can there not be a seperate, public, open slather thread/forum where anyone can vent, post, notify but its 'outside' the users forum? [edit; apologies i just noticed the Public Forum when i logged in a second time. heres to another fairly uninformative post ]
