Any ideas on this ? Ford focus butterfly advert

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have an idea on how to do the end scene of the ford butterfly advert where they all come together to form the car (35s) ?

Im trying to do something kind of similar but I was wondering if anyone could give some input on how they reckon this was done ?

It just looks like particles that attract to the car body and then they are blend in comp to car color.

Looks like there are multiple different versions of the effect. The far away stuff seems to be just fading the butterflies away and having a wipe on effect on the material underneath in roughly the same spot, but I'm unsure about the closeups where they seem to create an impression on the material where they land.

some kind of distance tex/conform thingy maybe.. as butterfly gets close, mesh deforms out to meet it, then deforms back.

the closeup detail bits look nice, but the overall car building effect i dont like. dont really like the concept to be honest.

I agree, i think it looks very nice how the badge is done right at the end
