  • Light Tree or Adaptive Lights?

So with the new version of Vray there's a new algorithm for sampling lights - Light Tree. My question is should I use this instead of Adaptive Lights and when? Also, why is Adaptive Lights still the default if Light Tree is newer?

I think light tree is inside adaptive lights so you don't need to change anything. Always use adaptive lights and it should work fine for the most part.

Then why is there Light Tree option to chose from?

To replace the uniform probabilistic method.
Feel free to test the light tree, though.

Leave the defaults. We will remove the options in future versions to avoid confusion

I did a test for both adaptive and light tree and for this specific scene light tree was better in terms of quality (no flicker in reflection ) .

This one is rendered using the default Adaptive

I probably will need to do another test with the exact settings for the adaptive to be sure about render time and if adaptive was the real reason behind the flickering for sure.
