  • VrayDirt & Fur

    Hello,
we are trying to rework the way we do occlusion on characters especially with hair & fur.
We used to calculate an occlusion, that is pretty 'expensive' to render with fur and than exclude it in compositing because it's way more darker than on the rest (skin, body...)

Exclude List is exactly what i could need, but an exclude object is now render Black and of course it totally mess an occlusion (used in multiply over a diffuse)

    image#2

I've tried the ResultEffect List, and magic, it's doing pretty munch what i need (hair in pure with, rest in dirt). But i don't understand what's exactly happening, could anybody try to explain what the ResultEffect list is ?

    Thanks !

The difference between the 'Exclude' and the 'Result affect' list is the following:

The exclude list disables the calculation of the VRayDirt map for specific objects, which means excluding them from the VRayDirt shading, returning a black color instead.
The result affect list specifies which objects will be affected by the VRayDirt calculation in a similar way, but all excluded objects are considered invisible (won't affect other objects).

      Hello,
sorry but i really don't find any way to properly do what i want.

      Here's a simple scene.

      From left to right :
      - basic Occlusion
      - object exclud in the render element panel
      - object exclud in the dirt map
      - object in the result affect channel
So the object does self-dirt Itself but does NOT dirt its environnement while i would like that the object dirt it's environnement but not itself.

I'm trying to have something like an exclude version (#2 ou #3) but with a full white color.

Try swapping the occluded and unoccluded colors, while having the object in the Exclude list and afterward invert the pass in a post-processing application.

          Hello !

We finally managed to do what we wanted.
We don't anymore go with a RenderElement VrayExtraText, now we are doing a render with VrayLightMtl override.
This is surprisingly really fast to render and dirt is way cleaner than usually.
We can both have Hair totally white or Hair with the skin occlusion (but not self-occlusion)

          Here's screens of our results.
