  • Denoiser & Renderlements questions

    Hello,
    some question about Renderelements.
I'm coming from Maya and I am a bit confused, how Renderelements are handled in Max:

1.) I have activated Denoiser, but it is Enabled "Off".
A pop-up message tells me that this is normal. So which is the button to toggle them on and off?

2.) In the documentation of Denoiser, there is Advanced Denoiser Parameters > generate Renderelements > "All possible denoising elements" as a dropdown menu
But I can't see this, there is only a box to tick (Max2020, Vray update 2.1, currently I am running for Max only the vray trial version)
    (compare my screenshot to https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...lRenderElement)

3.) I read about a denoiser stand alone (I never used until now).
When I have Maya and Max installed, is there a difference for tool?
(When I open "DenoiserTool"-Application, it refers to the folder ...\V-Ray\Maya 2017 for x64\bin" please look at my screenshot also)

4.) Is there a in depth documentation about the commands of Vray Standalone Denoiser and how exactly to use it?

5.) Is there a diffuse Renderelement? I only can see DiffuseFilter, but not Diffuse

    Thanks in advance!

    Answers to your questions:

    1. If using the VFB - turn off the 'vrayVFB' option in a given element; if using the 3ds max frame buffer use the 'Enable' checkbox.
    2. The documentation page you've sent concerns V-Ray 3, hence the mismatch between the available options seen in V-Ray NEXT. Denoising elements is now done separately for each element via the 'denoise' checkbox in the elements' own options.
    3. There may be a difference in the 'vdenoise.exe' tool depending on the installed V-Ray version. The best practice would be to drag and drop the .exe in a new command prompt window to be sure you're using the desired version.
    4. Here you go - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/.../Denoiser+Tool
    5. The VRayDiffuseFilter pass is the diffuse pass. It shows the colors and textures used in materials, flatly applied to objects with no lighting information.
