  • Scatter question

I'm curious about something: If I scatter 5,000 trees on a landscape with Multiscatter, the rendering starts almost right away, yet the overall time to complete the image takes longer than if I scatter them with the VRayInstancer, which has a very long "compiling geometry" phase before the rendering starts. Why is that?

    Hello,

They are different plugins optimized for somewhat different cases and both approaches have pros and cons.
Multiscatter works in a way that is more suitable for faster render start and uses less memory (especially if some instances are not directly visible).
VRayInstancer is more generic and is able to instance almost any kind of geometry. To do this it requires some more complex initial processing and consumes more memory per instance.
