Displacement and MSOs

One of my MSOs contains most of my terrain materials. How can I apply a displacement to grass without applying it to concrete, asphalt, etc. ???

Use 3d displacement and the "use object mtl" option. Then just put a displacement map in the displacement slot of each material you want to displace.

I was thinking of that. Will the others get the default displacement (noise) though? I'll play with it. I just haven't gotten the same results from 3d as I do from 2d for some reason.

First off - render times went nuts because it was trying to displace everything with default noise as I suspected. Turns out it was easy enough to fix though by unticking the displacement slot in every other material in the MSO.

However, I'm back to my problem of huge difference between 3d and 2d displacement. I think 3d is the way to go logically, especially with modeled terrain. However, it looks screwy and takes 50% longer.

Any thoughts?

It should work, whats your material look like? maybe try putting a black map in the displacement slot of the things you don't want to displace.

That's not the problem. I stopped the other materials from displacing. The problem is in the difference between 2D and 3D displacement. All I did is checked 3D instead of 2D - all other settings are the same. Why does 3d look so different? And why does it take so much longer?
