  • Stealth Style Ring of Fire

So I am trying to be all adventurous and recreate the scene from Stealth where there is a ring of leaking fuel in the sky (a torus basically) and it gets ignited by a jet flying through it. The fire the burns equally around the torus until it hits together at the opposite point from ignition.

I have a torus emitting fuel with an ignition temp of 500 this fire source 01 with temp and smoke turned off and Fuel turned on. Fire Source 02 is a sphere that has a temperature of 2000, no smoke and it starts from the centre of the torus and passes through.. there is some reaction as you'd expect but by no means does the fire travel around the torus burning and rolling. I have tried the increasing the energy, animating the energy going up, I have fuel depletion set to .1 and I have been messing around with propagation.. nothing works like in my head it is going to

I have had a spline inside the torus with two spheres on it and a path deform, they are animated to start at the ignition point and then meet up at the opposing side. Again there is sort of a reaction with the fuel but not a real combusting growing explosion around the shape.

    Any pointers with this one?

    S.

I'm not using FD right now but maybe it would work to have the torus have an animated slice from/to and that would constrain the flames, possibly in a more predictable way.
I may have to get a seat of FD to try this out

yeh I just tried that also.. then the fuel source isn't really already in existence and then whole.. exploding as it is moving is lost also.

Thanks for the clip, as I hadn't seen the movie and now I see it I have an idea.
I would break it down into the existing torus of wispy fuel (which remains separate and is then occluded) and then, as it appears in the clip, there are seemingly explosions happening sequentially around the circumference, which would in theory all then link...in theory
        Worth a go I reckon.
