working here fine too. I wish someone can write a plugin for Vray though that would render the Hais as rendertime primitives like it works now in Ornatrix. It may be the ideal further development of the Vray hair SDK Example!

the only problem with the new hair (shave&haircut) is that, it don't work with multithreating. So, you have only 1 CPU... very bad if you use HT.

i can only render the new hair with vray if i set the render effect hair option to "geometry".
this renders about four times slower and doesnt look as good as the hair "buffer" option.

how did you make it work?

tammo, which version of VRay are you using? From what I have seen, the latest versions (1.46.xx) render the hair even as an effect (without the geometry option).

the problem with hair and buffer rendering is when you're using camera view. try render hair in camera view (it won't render) and then in perspective view (it will render). Ofcourse I'm talking about rendering both with vray renderer.Because with scanline everything is working fine.

After installing Max 7.5, VRay no longer shows up as a possible renderer. I then reinstalled VRay, and it still does not show up.

                  Any thoughts?

You may have installed it in a different location.

                        lukx, thanks for info.
rendering with perspective view and vray works.

                        good workaround for stills.

Could the rendering in Perspective but not in Camera be an "Use Max Camera space" checker-box problem?

If you just set the hair mode to geometry instead of buffer (in the effects dialogue) it works fine from a camera

it works fine but when you got a lot of geometry in scene soon you will run out of memory.
