  • Exterior challenge

This one has been on the back burner for way too long. I need to finish it up. One crit I have received is that the lighting isn't right. Anyone want to take a stab at it? I'll email a stripped version to anyone who wants to try lighting it.

Drop me a line at scottsmith@customcadsolutions.com if you want to have a go at it. I'd be interested to see the different solutions anyway.

For now, stick to the camera I have set up, as the client likes it. Also, just leave it on the default material I have set up. Just change lighting and render settings. Oh, and tell us what you did.

      Hi ..

Are you going to pay people to light your scene for you?
Or are you expecting this for free?

Usually, when someone posts an image asking for help, the first thing people ask for is "why don't you post a stripped version of the scene?" I beat them to it. There it is.

Also, I have had several people ask me in the past if I would post a sample exterior so they could play with lighting since they "rarely get to do exteriors". Well, there you go.

No one is being compelled to do anything against their will. If no one wants to participate, then I guess this thread will remain silent. If they want to - there it is.

I think it would be beneficial to everyone to see different solutions here. This forum can tend to be long on theory but short on specifics. Someone will say "the lighting is all wrong". Ok, well do you mean the sun multiplier, or the GI mult.? Or maybe subdivisions or samples? Or raise the output of the gradient in the GI? Or add lights? Or decrease shadow density? Or they'll say "your materials don't look real". Ok... care to share some specifics? Reflection, refraction, samples, bump??? I know that no one likes to share secrets, but we're scattered all over the world here. Not a whole lot of competition.

So far, this has all been trial and error for me, and I think for a lot of others as well. I'd like to see what other people come up with and how. I think we'd all learn something. I learned an awful lot from the thread flipside posted last year on lighting interiors, yet I don't recall any criticism for his posting it asking help "for free".

And, if it must be known, this baseball stadium is a community project that many people are contributing to - including me.

So are you implying that most images people post here are simply for fun? I think most of us do this with the hope of making a living. I'm not sure what it is you think I'm hiding. This is the first time I've ever seen someone criticized for asking for help in this forum.

Please CCS im not critizing for asking for help .. but what you are doing is asking someone to light your scene for you so you can obtain a more realistic render for your client to pay for.(wrong or right)
If you remember ccs i was doing this job for you under rendertime consultancy but as you couldnt supply all the maps for this job i was unable to do this for you ... I just feel a little let down by you as you have doubled backed on me, but hey thats your choice..

                Natty-

I have sent you the maps twice. I have emailed since then saying if you are getting a message saying that maps are missing, let me know which ones and I'll get them to you. I'm not sure what would be missing as I've had others load the file without any missing maps. Since you have not replied to the last few IMs or emails, I needed to do something to move this along.

I think it's all a bit bright (assuming thats a standard grey mat material applied to the objects). The objects seem to be very bleached out. Try lowering your direct/spot's intensity

The override material I used is 190,190,190 as I recall. Plus it has some blurry reflection so it's not flat. The color in the background is because I need to increase the diameter of my sun. Any other color you see is either sun or GI.

Well thats a very bright override material, its hard to tell how bright everything is. Can you re-render with just a normal straight out of the box vray mat instead?

I'll have a go at this later on mate.

As for asking someone to do the scene for him it certainly doesn't read that way to me. He's posted a file for others to have a go at, not supplied the whole model and then asked to have it reposted with someone else's set up.

Personally I feel that it's a conflict of interest for one of the moderators of this forum to offering services on the side to help people with their scene for a fee -
That is what I thought this forum was for - I must be mistaken -

hmmm...not sure I totally agree. I think there is a place for more personal support that an individual might offer. Whens the last time you talked with vlado over the phone? I think if its handled correctly, it should be fine. Let it spill over too much into the forum and it might cause a sticky situation. (which in this instance is probably the case, and IMO should have been handled privately)
